Obituary

Anton James Sydnor, lovingly known as Semaja “Sy” Sydnor and affectionately called “Lil’ Anton” by many who knew and loved him, was a vibrant spirit whose personality filled every room he entered. Known for his quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and unforgettable comebacks, Anton never hesitated to say what was on his mind. He lived authentically, loved deeply, and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Those closest to him will forever remember his love for music, laughter, family gatherings, and good food. One of his favorites was his sister Mariah’s homemade banana pudding, prepared exactly the way he liked it—extra bananas, plenty of wafers, and often enjoyed straight from the pan before anyone else had the chance to get a serving. His family still smiles through tears remembering the day his older sisters, India and Mariah, reminded him to finish his chores, and with the confidence and humor that defined him, he responded, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

Anton was preceded in death by his mother, Stacy Sydnor; maternal grandmother, Barbara Sydnor; cousin, Sherman Sydnor; paternal grandfather, Sheridan Kerrin; paternal great-grandmother, Mary Miller; paternal great-aunt, Bernice Miller; cousins, David Brown and Kevin Miller; his beloved cousin, Dawaun Lewis Taylor; paternal uncle, Craig Moreland; and his bonus grandmother, Lorraine, all of whom welcomed him home with open arms.

Anton leaves to cherish his memory his loving father, Anton Kerrin and he also leaves behind his bonus mothers, Shawne Williams and Ebony Logan-Ndiaye, whose love and guidance became an important part of his journey. His maternal siblings, Shawn Sydnor, Shapara Sydnor, and Alexis Smith; and his paternal siblings, Mariah Kerrin, India Kerrin, Joshua Kerrin, Noah Gales, Noel Smith, Janelle Triplett, Kajunyana, Kaswaunte “KK,” Twan Jackson, and the sister he inherited through his beloved older sister India, Ronesha Bozeman.

He also leaves behind his cherished grandmother, Charlotte Swayne, and grandfather, Donald Swayne; his favorite Great Aunt, Barbara Brown; and the many aunts and uncles who loved and supported him throughout his life, including Stephanie Farquharson, uncle Stanley Sydnor (“Aunt Angel”), Tonya Kerrin, Toni Howard (“Uncle Rossy”), Tracy Bloom (“Uncle Richard”), Tina Moody and Charles Moody, Vontel and Phil Nowlin, Demetrius Brown, Thomas Brown, and Anthony Brown.

Anton was blessed with an abundance of cousins whom he loved dearly, including Tiffany and Brandon Travillion, Jalisa and Matt Pippin, Dante Owusu’, Michael Peterson, Anthony Gay, Rashad Fields, Ahmad Fields, Isaiah Fields, and countless others. Among those who held a special place in his heart were Lil’ Stevie, Danielle Williams, Brice, Dajon, Tae’, Camya, and Yazzie, along with many more family members and friends whose lives were touched by his love and laughter.

Anton was also a loving uncle to a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved and adored with all his heart. The joy he found in being “Uncle Anton” was evident in the love, laughter, and special bonds he shared with each of them.

Though his time here was far too short, Anton’s impact was immeasurable. His humor, authenticity, resilience, and love will live on in every story shared, every favorite song played, and every memory held close by those who knew and loved him. While his family mourns the loss of his physical presence, they celebrate the joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments he gave them throughout his life.

Anton James Sydnor, lovingly known as Semaja “Sy” Sydnor and affectionately remembered as “Lil’ Anton,” will be remembered not only for the laughter he brought into the world, but for the love he gave so freely and the unforgettable mark he left on the hearts of his family and friends. His spirit lives on through every memory, every story, and every person fortunate enough to have loved him.
