Elizabeth Maton peacefully returned home to our Heavenly Father on April 24, 2026 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Elizabeth was born on March 26, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan to Marie and Robert McCollough with whom she shared 8 siblings with as follows: Al, Robert, Barbara, Delores, Regina, Carl and Myra. They started with very humble beginnings getting by with her father’s hunting and hustling skills, while her mom tended to the home raising her and her siblings to the best of her ability. By way of instilling strong morals and values rooted in faith, hard work, and discipline coupled with living and witnessing life struggles; Elizabeth ensured she was employed as soon as she was legally able and simultaneously graduated with exceptional grades that got her in to Wayne University where she acquired her associates degree in finance.
Elizabeth was in high honors academically and socially her and her childhood and lifelong best friend Deborah lived their best lives. They were a huge support system to each other while getting through school and after supported each other through the journey of womanhood to motherhood. Straight from college she landed a job that would launch her career that would not only relocate her from Detroit to New York and back but also to South Carolina to her final residence in Columbus, Ohio. In between being successful in her career, she also married and divorced Michael Maton. Though the marriage did not work out, their friendship never faded, and together they raised her only child, Michele Maton, along with her three beloved grandchildren, Kaydin, Jayanna, and Jacob.
Elizabeth had a heart bigger than the world and a hammer as hard as God’s hands. She loved hard and never failed to show up in anyway she could when she was needed— even without having to ask. She loved to garden, travel, work out, fine dining and all the luxuries working hard can provide, but she loved her family more. She was big on stability and did a phenomenal job creating a stable life for herself and for her generations to follow through all the wisdom passed down leading by example and witnessing through experience.
Elizabeth was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer on April 11,2025. She, her family and long term partner, Anthony, fought and battled as hard as we could until she was admitted into hospice April 11, 2026. During her last days she spent them with her close family making memories and basking in love that can’t be articulated. She was happy. She was not in pain and in peace she was able to rest. She was a God fearing woman who always put Him first. Knowing this, find comfort and assurance knowing that Elizabeth is not gone, rather she has went home to the room God prepared for her in Heaven. Surely, the sovereign servant she was in this life has kept her heart and mind pure; Elizabeth Maton lived well and may it be the Lord’s will the way she lived was ‘Well done’.
