Roy Lee Barnes, a devoted Husband, father, grandfather, cousin, and friend, who departed this life surrounded by love on July 7, 2025.

Born November 13, 1959, in Mississippi, Roy carried the warmth and strength of his Southern roots with him when he later made Columbus his home. It was there he met the love of his life, Sylvia, with whom he shared over 35 years of unwavering companionship. Roy was absolutely crazy about Sylvia, and everyone who knew them could feel the depth of his love and admiration for her.

Roy was a proud and present father to his children: Antonio, Andretta, Tamika, and Wendy. His heart swelled with pride for his 12 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him endless joy and meaning. His love for his family knew no bounds, he was the kind of man whose heart was big enough to carry us all.

He often said, "mess with my family and I'll turn into a bear." And that's exactly who he was, fiercely protective, loyal, and full of heart. Roy stood by his children through the good, the bad, and the ugly. No matter the circumstance, he was always there, guiding, loving, and defending those he held dear.

Family meant everything to Roy. He cherished his Special uncle uncle Mitch and uncle Bo, cousins, Aaron, Duck, Bobby, Big Pooh, and Lil Pooh Man and Wayno, Special friend Rock. Roy was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Tauron.

To know Roy was to know strength, loyalty, humor, and love. Whether you were blood or bonded by love, Roy considered you family. He had a heart too big for words and a spirit too strong to ever forget. He leaves behind a host of uncles, extended family, and lifelong friends who will miss him deeply but celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.

Roy Lee Barnes, our protector, our rock, our bear, will be missed beyond measure and remembered forever in the stories we tell, the love we give, and the family you built with your whole heart.
