IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sean
Kato II
October 1, 1980 – February 26, 2026
Sean Kato didn't just enter a room — he filled it. With a smile that disarmed strangers and a laugh that made them feel like old friends, Sean had a gift that couldn't be taught: he made people feel seen, valued, and loved. Columbus, Ohio, born and raised, he was 45 years young when he was called home on February 26, 2026, leaving behind a world made richer for every life he touched.
To know Sean was to experience something rare. He was effortlessly handsome, undeniably charismatic, and sharp in a way that made conversation with him feel like a gift. He had a natural way with words — whether he was closing a deal, cracking a joke that left the room in tears, or simply offering the right encouragement at exactly the right moment. And he always seemed to know which one the moment called for.
A dreamer who built, Sean was an entrepreneur who owned and operated his own recording studio — a testament to his belief that hard work and relentless faith could make the impossible real. He was the best salesman not because he sold things, but because he genuinely believed in people and possibilities, and that conviction was contagious.
Sean was a protector. A father figure not just to his own children but to anyone who needed one. Athletic and strong, he stood in the gap for others without being asked — that was simply who he was. His faith in God anchored everything. He was a man of prayer, and those who knew him well knew that his strength came from somewhere deeper than what most people could see.
At the center of his world were his children. He was a devoted, loving father — the kind who showed up, who laughed with them, who set the example of what a man looks like when he doesn't quit. His family's monthly gatherings were sacred to him. He'd fire up the grill — and let it be known, Sean Kato was the undisputed BBQ grill master. Whatever he made, everyone came back for seconds, and the table was always a place of joy when he was the one cooking.
He was thoughtful. Helpful. Kind in the quiet, consistent way that matters most. Fun to be around in a way that made ordinary days feel like celebrations. Sean knew how to make people smile, and more importantly, he knew how to make them feel like they mattered.
Sean was preceded in death by his much beloved son, Marsean, and his cherished grandmothers, Viola Stewart and Marie Summerall — women whose love and legacy were woven into the very fabric of who he became.
He is survived by his loving mother, Cheryl Kato; his father, Robert and Anna Kato; his bonus mom, Yvonne Jones (James); his brother, Joshua Kato (Ashlee); his sister, Lovelee Branch and Scott Branch; his uncle Jonathan, who was so close to him in age that the two were less like uncle and nephew and more like brothers bound by blood and by bond; his cherished children, Kesahn, Sean "Duke Duke," and Ahbella; his bonus son, Shaheed; three nieces, two nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends who carry a piece of him with them always.
Sean Kato worked hard. He loved deeply. He laughed loudly. He prayed sincerely. And he lived in a way that left no doubt about what he stood for.
His love, his faith, his fire — these do not end. They live on in every life he shaped.
